What determines the price of a marina service pedestal?

Short answer: the price of a marina pedestal is set mainly by its outlets (how many, and their amperage), whether it has metering and prepaid control, and the body material. Lighting, water connections, network type and order size make smaller differences. Looking past the unit price, running costs such as subscriptions and spare parts matter just as much.

1. Number and rating of outlets

This is the biggest factor. A pedestal with two 16 A sockets costs much less than one with 125 A or 250 A sockets. Higher ratings need larger sockets, breakers, residual-current devices and cabling, and often a larger body.

2. Metering and prepaid control

A pedestal that only supplies power and water is the simplest. Adding an energy meter, a water flow meter and prepaid control per outlet adds components to every outlet. It can also decide which body you need: on Meqtec pedestals, a four-socket prepaid configuration moves from Trima to the larger Trima XL.

3. Body material

Moulded HDPE bodies are UV-protected, do not corrode and are produced efficiently. Stainless steel bodies are often made by hand and cost more to produce. Meqtec offers both: the Trima, Trima XL, Neca and Curva models in HDPE, and the Bellia in stainless steel.

4. Lighting and water

Integrated 360° lighting, the number of water taps and the type of valves all affect the price. The standard is one tap per socket.

5. Network and management system

Pedestals can connect to the marina office by Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Some systems also charge a monthly cloud or software subscription per pedestal. Meqtec's management software is a one-time licence with no subscription and no external servers, so it adds nothing to yearly running costs.

6. Order size, delivery and installation

Larger orders usually get better unit prices. Shipping, local installation and commissioning add to the project budget. Meqtec supplies pedestals ready to install and commissions and trains remotely, which keeps installation costs down for marinas abroad.

What a low price can hide

  • Missing tests: check the protection rating (IP66 or better for marine use), impact resistance and test certificates.

  • Subscriptions: cloud fees per pedestal add up over a 10-year life.

  • Spare parts: ask how long parts will be available. Meqtec keeps spare parts for 10 years.

  • Payment lock-in: some prepaid systems route the marina's revenue through a third party. With Meqtec, the marina collects all payments itself.
